As part of the ongoing winter training effort for the year of cycling events ahead I’ve been working my way through the various sufferfest videos.

Tonight was the turn of ‘Revolver‘ which describes itself as – This is a simple workout with one purpose: Beat the crap out of you as quickly as possible!

And boy does it deliver! The poor old legs will be feeling it tomorrow. Hopefully it will all pay off when the sponsorship money starts rolling in :O)

Tragic O’Hara

I saw this guy for the first time supporting Lach and Viv Albertine at Mono in November last year and was blown away. One man, a guitar and a little box of tricks for recording loops and the like coupled with some killer lyrics it made for a seriously good set of songs.

So when Mr. O’Hara kindly notified us, via his facebook page, of a free gig at King Tuts as part of the King Tuts New Years Revolution I jumped at the chance. I even managed to rope in the drinking services of Mr. Imrie

We were not to be disappointed with Mr O’Hara putting on another fine display, even while suffering from a sore throat. I put my new phone to good use and recorded some video of a few songs which I shall present to you here for you viewing pleasure…

Signed up for the 2012 Graeme Obree Sportive. A tough 68.5 miles around South Ayrshire.

The Grim Reaper

This makes pretty grim reading - Every death on every road in Great Britain 1999-2010.

It would seem if you’re a cyclist and you want to stay alive then you should avoid riding during the Monday to Friday rush hours and not bother heading out on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Strangely, looking at the map of bike casualties in the Glasgow area, most of them seem to occur in fine weather during daylight. There also seems to be a disproportionate number of old men (60+) involved.

If the map is accurate and to be believed it looks like one guy died while cycling along the M74.

Thankfully though, the general trend for the number of cyclists being killed on the roads between 1999 – 2010 seems to heading downwards. This has got to be a good thing considering the number of cyclists on the road during that time has most definitely been on the rise.

Don’t let the doom mongers put you off and get out and ride!

Bealach Mor

Just signed up for the Bealach Mor (140km, 3000m ascent) and the Ullapool Sportive. Help ma’ boab!!!

Two more sportives to add to the ever growing list along with the New Forest Spring Sportive, Etape Caledonia, the Wight Ferry Sportive and the Glasgow 100.

It’s going to be a busy 2012!!!

The return of the net

Well after a couple of years hiatus I’ve finally got round to putting something back up at netclectic.com. I’m not sure where it’s going to go just yet but I’m working on it, hopefully it will evolve in to something resembling a website in the coming months.
